It's one of those games that successfully borders on an interactive film experience that really makes you feel like you are part of something big. Shadow of the Tomb Raider delivers and it does it with perfection. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the quintessential action adventure, compounded by human emotion tying it all together to be at the top of its class. This final chapter in Lara Croft’s origin story comes to a close with maturity in tune with the character and the series. With more tombs, more ways to explore and connect with the game world, and less of the junk that soiled prior entries, it’s everything you’d want. There are so many great moments, but the stealth is fantastic and so satisfying. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is constantly challenging Lara, forcing her to survive another harsh location. It’s rare to have this balance that even the final boss is evenly constructed, and no difficulty spikes are present at any point during the game. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is excellent, and so well balanced from the combat, to exploring, to solving puzzles. Even if it can't quite manage to keep all its balls in the air. Luddington's finale is a grand one, and well worth it for fans of the series. Shadow stands as near the best version of what it sets out to be. It all depends on how much, or how little, you want to dig and how much you want to play as Lara Croft. There's plenty of that in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, too. Many come to Tomb Raider games for adventure and escape, to visit beautiful places and solve befuddling puzzles. Slick and overly downbeat, Lara's latest sees the reboot trilogy end just as it began.Įventually, Shadow of the Tomb Raider succumbs to the darkness, repeating many of the series' usual mistakes, but along the way it shines a thrilling and refreshing light.įor all the savvy tweaks to combat and exploration, Shadow of the Tomb Raider unfortunately feels like an extremely long expansion pack, now with killer fish and face mud. And that exploration in that sense of tomb raiding in this game is incredibly high, so for people who maybe weren't a fan of Rise as much, weren't a fan of that ballistic exploration you did in Rise where apparently you're using shotguns for compasses. I gotta say I was pretty surprised by this game I wasn't necessarily expecting it to go away from the bloodshed of Rise and just the overt ballistics that that game sometimes offered, and sort of set it back just a little bit here, offer more challenge tombs. At the same time though, when you're exploring, you do notice that most of the time it is just that jungle, and that can get a little bit dreary over long periods of time. There's a lot of unique elements and those underwater spots in this game really do show what somebody could do if they aimed and focused just on that. If you liked the challenge tombs of Rise, you will probably like this even more. If you liked Rise, you'll probably like this. You really need to understand what you're going in to. * Tomb Raider 1996 through Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness were developed by Core Design, and Crystal Dynamics developed Tomb Raider: Legend through Rise of the Tomb Raider, excluding Lara Croft GO which was made by Square Enix Montreal Crafty compilation of Tomb Raider games - Entryħ9 GameRankings * PS1*, 1999, 18 critics OpenCritic - 81 Current score distributionĮidetic list of past Eidos Montréal games - Entry Release Date: Standard Edition - September 14, 2018ĭigital Deluxe & Croft Editions - September 12, 2018 Xbox One X Enhancement Trailer | Tobii Eye Tracking 'Smart and Resourceful' | 'Challenge Tombs and Puzzles' | 'Acrobatic Traversals and Brutal Traps' 'Underwater Survival' | 'Takedowns' | 'Makeshift Arsenal' | 'Know Your Enemy' 'Treacherous Traversal' | 'A Stunning World' | 'Deadly Tombs' | 'Combat Tactics' Media: Teaser Trailer | 'The End of the Beginning'
